Drew University 10:02 – 10:47 a.m. & 10:50 -11:35 a.m.
Singapore math uses manipulatives (scroll pictures below) to teach students number sense, and you will have the opportunity to purchase your own math kit (identical to that which your child uses in school ) to work with your child at home. We have ordered the kits from Japan, and they cost $38 each. Scroll through the slides below to see what manipulatives are included in the kits.
Your children should use these kits to practice problem solving, and we want parents to feel comfortable using them too.
Below we have given you two examples of problem solving that your children are learning to use. this approach to problem solving is sometimes referred to as a concrete,-pictorial-abstract, or C-P-A.
